Ruby Corundum in Verdite
Ruby Corundum in Verdite
Corundum is a mineral species best known for its two popular gemstone varieties, sapphire and ruby. All colors of corundum except red are known as sapphire. Corundum is the second hardest mineral on earth after diamonds, with a good resistance to chipping, and strong color stability.
Ruby is the red version of the mineral known as Corundum. Pure Corundum is made up of aluminum & oxygen & is colorless. When small amounts of chromium (about one percent) replace aluminum within the mineral, the chromium atoms absorb certain wavelengths of light & reflect light in the red part of the visible light spectrum. This reflected red light gives rubies their distinctive red coloring.
Verdite is a green metamorphic rock made up of Fuchsite & fine grain clay. Fuchsite is a variety of Muscovite, which is in turn part of the Mica mineral group. This makes Verdite closely related to other gemstones such as Lepidolite. Sometimes mistaken for Jade, Verdite was originally found in North Kaap River, South Africa.
Metaphysically, Verdite may promote individual power, without arrogant influence by boosting strength, reliability & honesty.
Corundum is said to promote insight into the unknown, promoting wisdom & wise choices. It may also subdue emotional tumult by relieving tension by reducing the presence of negative thoughts. Ruby is thought to be protective of home, possessions & family. It has been associated with improved energy and concentration, creativity, loyalty, honor and compassion.
