Rainbow Moonstone, also known as White Labradorite, is actually a variety of Labradorite that exhibits flashy colors & rainbows. The name “Rainbow Moonstone” was coined by the lapidary & mineral communities to describe this stone, even though it's not an Orthoclase (Moonstone). Rainbow Moonstone deposits can be found in Sri Lanka, Australia, Mexico, Madagascar, Poland, and India.

Ancient Romans believed that moonstones absorbed the rays of the Moon. In the specific case of Rainbow Moonstones, their first spiritual meaning was of protection; travelers & Roman legion soldiers used to carry these stones when they traveled at night.

Moonstones have long been associated with the moon and Labradorite is associated with the skies. Since Rainbow Labradorite is mostly white it is also more familiarly associated with the moon. This makes many of the myths & folklore of moonstones accurate for both. Diana, Roman Goddess of the Moon and Hanwi, the Sioux Moon Goddess of the Moon are both associated with Rainbow Moonstone. Throughout history Moonstone has been considered a stone of new beginnings & it has been carried as protection on the seas.

Rainbow Moonstones offer protection from negative & destructive energies. They encourage mind, body, spirit & emotional purity. These stones help enhance creativity, intuition and inspiration.
