Microcline is an important igneous rock-forming tectosilicate mineral. It is a potassium-rich alkali feldspar. Microcline typically contains minor amounts of sodium. It is common in granite & pegmatites. Microcline forms during slow cooling of orthoclase; it is more stable at lower temperatures than orthoclase. The material has variable levels of color intensity with occasional veining as well as a shimmer effect on some pieces.

Microcline gets its name from Greek μικρός (mikron) meaning little and κλίνειν (klinein) meaning to incline. The name references the slight deviation from 90° of Microcline’s intersecting cleavages. This deviation creates a visual effect, or shimmer, caused by the diffraction of light within a microstructure consisting of a regular succession of layers of feldspar (lamellae).

Microcline was discovered in 1830 by German mineralogist, Johann Friedrich August Breithaupt. He’s credited with naming the mineral after discovering it in Norway’s very first naval base, Fredriksvern. Amazonite is another form of Microcline.

Microcline’s appearance & energies make it to be a powerful healing stone aiding physical, emotional, & spiritual wellness. Microcline’s meaning is one of clarity, balance, & restoration. It supports recovery & regeneration in all aspects.
