Kambaba Jasper Cabochon
Kambaba Jasper Cabochon
Kambaba Jasper or kabamba, comes from a small area in Madagascar called Kabamba. Located in the central western Bongolavaregion, Kambaba Jasper is not actually a Jasper, but rather a sedimentary fossil containing prehistoric algae from billions of years ago. It receives its blue-green color, black spots & swirls from fossilized algae colonies.
This material is an oncolite stromatolite, a rock-like structure that forms in shallow seas. It's made up of bacteria which over time has been replaced by silica. Kambaba may also contain Amphibole, Cristobalite, Feldspar, Quartz, Sanidine, Albite, Uralite, Leucoxene, and Rutile/Hematite.
One particular algae Cyanobacteria, is believed to have assisted in the creation of our Earth's oxygen atmosphere more than 3 billion years ago. That does not mean the stones are that old, only that it most likely contains the type of bacteria that dates back that far.
There is a lot of debate about just what exactly Kambaba is & the confusion seems to lie in its similarity to a type of Ocean Jasper also found in the same region of Madagascar.
Spiritually, Kambaba is a stone of peace, tranquility, & fertility. It connects us to the past & helps with the appreciation of life itself. This 'Supreme Nurturer" encourages the imagination to experience the ebb & flow of energy between all living beings and the Earth.
