Green Sardonyx
Green Sardonyx
Sardonyx is a banded variety of onyx, which is a type of chalcedony. Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, composed of tiny Quartz crystals. Sardonyx, like Onyx, is known for its distinctive banding pattern, consisting of alternating layers of different colors. The most common color combination is white or gray bands alternating with black or brown bands, but it can also exhibit red, yellow, green or other colors in the banding.
Green Sardonyx is light to green in color & features banding or stripes in varying shades of green, ivory, beige & pink.
The formation of Sardonyx is similar to that of other chalcedony varieties like Agate & Jasper. It typically forms through the deposition of silica-rich fluids in cavities & cracks in rocks. Over time, the fluids deposit layers of silica that eventually solidify in the banded patterns that are the hallmark of Sardonyx.
Ancient Persians believed Sardonyx made a soldier invincible. Christian traditions associate Sardonyx with the Apostle Paul. Sardonyx was said to have powerful protective properties in Medieval Europe, worn to protect against the evil eye & promote courage & strength.
Encouraging positive reinforcement & positive thinking, Green Sardonyx can help attract good fortune & positive energy.
