Fruit Jasper is an unusual form of chalcedony with attractive red, green, yellow & ochre coloring. It originates from India which is the home to a number of unusual minerals, especially different forms of Jasper. In India traditionally they call this stone ‘Sabalgarh Marble’ or ‘Ujuba’. The town of Sabalgarh is in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh State. It is also known as ‘Ajoobalite’ or ‘Ajooba Jasper’, which translates to ‘one of a kind’ in Urdu.
Fruit Jasper displays a mixture of mottled yellows, reds, pea-greens, & browns. The speckled pattern of colors upon the Jasper's surface make this crystal highly unique, & similar in appearance to fruit, hence its name of Fruit Jasper.
Jasper is a variety of quartz that may contain up to 20 percent foreign materials or inclusions, including organic material & mineral oxides, which determine the color, pattern & appearance of the stone. Uniformly colored Jasper is uncommon but not unheard of; usually Jasper is multicolored, spotted or banded. This stone is opaque, even in thin slices, & takes a high polish. Different types of jasper display different lusters.
