Fossil Coral Tumbles
Fossil Coral Tumbles
Corals are marine invertebrates that typically live in compact colonies of many identical individual polyps. Coral as a group includes the important reef builders that inhabit tropical oceans & secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton.
Fossil coral is created through the process of calcium carbonate (coral) being replaced by silica. The silica ranges from light amorphous opaline to dense forms of chalcedony. Depending on the exact mineral concentration, fossil coral specimens can have slightly varying densities. The surface of the fossil usually displays the details of individual polyps. Although the pattern & body color of fossil coral is quite distinct, it can be mistaken for other types of agate such as moss or dendritic agate.
According to metaphysical beliefs, Fossil Coral is considered a grounding stone good for bringing about change. Ancient civilizations consider Fossil Corals to be precious globules, as they carry protective eminence with them. They may further protect the holder against evil spirits as they are believed to possess divine blood of the ancient creatures. The varied colors may radiate the frequencies of different healing properties.
