Druzy Dolomite
Druzy Dolomite
Dolomite (AKA Dolostone & Dolomite rock) is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of the mineral dolomite. It is found in sedimentary basins worldwide. It is thought to form by the post-depositional alteration of lime, mud & limestone by magnesium-rich groundwater.
The word druse (AKA Drusy or Druzy), refers to an aggregate mass of small crystals (crystal druse). These crystal inter-growths or clusters can be formed by many different minerals. The mineral species & shapes of crystals formed are dependent on fluid composition. Crystal size is a function of fluid temperature & pressure.
The geological process that forms a druzy, the layer of crystals on the rock, occurs when water brings minerals onto a rock's surface. When the water evaporates, cooling occurs & the minerals are left behind to form crystals on top of the rock.
Dolomite behaves like limestone when it is subjected to heat & pressure. It begins to recrystallize as the temperature rises. As this occurs, the size of the dolomite crystals in the rock increases, & the rock develops a distinctly crystalline appearance.
Drusy Dolomite offers a very unique & variable mix of malachite, hematite, duftite druse on a ferro-dolomite matrix.
Specimens like this do not come up very often. A beautiful complex mineral specimen perfect for a mineral collector. This specimen is ethically sourced from Kakanda, Congo.
Hematite is a very grounding and protective stone associated with the root chakra; it offers access to a sense of calm. Malachite is a stone of transformation and growth & Dolomite is a wonderful crystal for buffering and balancing, it offers an emotional reset and is highly grounding.
