Dragon Jasper
Dragon Jasper
Dragon Jasper is a dark green variety of chalcedony adorned with splatters of bright red. It has been a popular gemstone for 2000 years & has been the birthstone for March since 1912. Dragon Jasper is sometimes referred to as "heliotrope" by European authors and in works of the 18th century and earlier.
Dragon Blood & Dragon Stone are marketing names for a metamorphic rock & lapidary material that contains two minerals of the epidote group in specific colors: green epidote and red piemontite. Piemontite is a sorosilicate mineral & is red to reddish-brown in color. It has a red streak & a vitreous luster.
Epidote is the dominant material in this stone. It makes the dragon-green background, upon which splashes & veins of red piemontite look like blood. Epidote is a calcium-iron silicate mineral that forms through regional & contact metamorphism. It occurs as replacements of mineral grains that have been altered by metamorphism. It is frequently found in veins that cut granite.
Dragon Jasper also contains Quartz, seen as glassy gray grains or areas of salt & pepper color.
Mythical lore says the stone is actually the ancient remains of dragons; the green being dragon skin & the red its blood.
Dragon Jasper attracts prosperity, good luck, & wealth to all areas of life, & motivates one to seek out good opportunities. This gemstone aligns with the elements of Earth and Fire and instills focus, determination, strength, and willpower.
