Chiredzi Amethyst is a relatively new discovery in Zimbabwe & are very similar in composition to Brandberg Amethyst from Namibia. The regional material produces Amethyst & Smokey Amethyst crystals which often display scepter, inverted scepter, cascading, cathedral, or even geode habits. Chiredzi Amethyst shapes vary from clusters of pyramids on a geode base or tall prismatic crystals to short stubby crystals & in druzy aggregates. It may be colorless or feature various shades & mixtures of purple, brown, gray, or yellow. Some specimens may be translucent with milky inclusions while others are completely transparent. Each crystal is unique, often containing exceptional phantoms (ghosted image of a crystal within a crystal), anhydrous (air bubbles in water-filled chambers), rainbows, pyramidal “windows,” or with inclusive flecks of Lepidocrocite, Goethite or even Epidote.
Revered for its majestic properties, it was used in emblems and insignia during the Middle Ages to symbolize royalty. Traditionally the color of royalty, amethyst was used to adorn the richest and most powerful monarchs and rulers.
Spiritually, the color of Amethyst is considered symbolic of peace, cleansing & calming energy. It is considered a stone of spiritual protection, serenity, understanding, trust, & grace.
