Botswana Agate Tumbles
Botswana Agate Tumbles
Over the centuries, Botswana Agate has held ceremonial & spiritual significance throughout Africa. As a healing stone, it is said to vibrate at a lower frequency, taking longer to emit energies, allowing for a more profound stabilizing effect & fortified healing properties. Known as a soothing & calming stone, it is known as the “Sunset Stone” in its native Botswana.
The stone’s protective healing properties are said to absorb negative energy & toxic influences, allowing for healthy, uplifting vibes to flow. Meditating with Botswana Agate is said to be a great way to foster grounding, maturity, & stability, both emotionally & mentally.
It has long been considered a talisman to ward off spiders as well as possessing an ability to ignite a sense of adventure & exploration.
Botswana Agate is a type Banded Agate, discovered In 1971, near the town of Babanong in Botswana, Africa. It is considered far superior to all other agates due to its near perfect banding.
The area where it was found is rather large & there are several different locations within that area where these agates are abundant. Unfortunately, the collection & exportation of these prized agates is strictly controlled by the government making this material difficult to obtain. In fact, rough, unpolished specimens cannot be exported.
Botswana Agates are found as small white nodules in siliceous volcanic rocks. They are usually covered with an opaque rind that must be broken open to see the agate inside. Rarely are these nodules found to be more than 3-4 inches in size. They are commonly gray, white & black & are estimated to be between 140 to 180 million years old.
The intricate banding was formed by repeated floods of slow-moving lava washing over lower levels of stone, which laid down successive layers of silica/quartz one over the other. The weight & pressure caused tubes, pits & pockets to form in those lower layers, creating places where multiple layers could form into smooth round shapes.
