Blue Calcite Tower
Blue Calcite is just one of many different kinds of Calcite.
Calcite is the most abundant carbonate on Earth. It is one of the forms of calcium carbonate & its name derives from the Latin word for lime, calx & the German word calcit. It was named as a mineral by Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the Elder) in 79 CE.
Calcite is the main constituent of carbonate rocks & commonly occurs in the field as a component of limestones, marls, & fossils, but it can be found in veins, as cement of other sedimentary rocks, as a mineral in igneous rocks, & in metamorphic rocks (e.g. marble). When found in its crystal form, Calcite forms rhombohedra with rhombohedral cleavage & have a white to transparent color. Varieties of Calcite can display colors ranging from pink to green, due to the presence of Manganese, Iron, or Magnesium. In this case, they can be confused with Magnesite or Rhodochrosite, which have a similar habit.
Calcite is a primary mineral in many sedimentary environments. Various organisms use Calcite to produce shells & skeletal parts. Calcite forms fossils, bioclasts, & ooze in carbonatic environments. It also precipitates from water due to photosynthetic activity, evaporation, & other chemical processes, ending up in carbonate rocks & evaporites
Blue Calcite is considered a rare stone due to its color & the deepest blue specimens come from South Africa. In ancient history, because of its color, this type of calcite was considered a significant crystal with extremely powerful spiritual properties.
Blue Calcite is a very powerful stone that may sooth & relax the emotional self. It filters out negative vibrations & transmutes them into high positive energy. Blue Calcite opens up a stronger communication channel between thoughts and feelings.
