Barite Blades
Barite Blades
Barite, or Baryte, is a barium sulfate mineral that crystallizes in the form of masses, tabular crystals, or rarely as stalactites. First recorded in 1800 by D.L.G. Karsten, its name comes from the Greek word meaning heavy, due to its high specific gravity.
Barite occurs in many depositional environments, & is deposited through many processes including biogenic, hydrothermal, & evaporation, among others. Barite commonly occurs in lead-zinc veins in limestones, in hot spring deposits, & with hematite ore. It is often associated with the minerals Anglesite and Celestine. It has also been identified in meteorites.
The most common form of Barite is found in the formation of distinct blades.
Barite is the primary ore of barium, which is used to make a wide variety of barium compounds. Some of these are used for x-ray shielding. Barite has the ability to block x-ray and gamma-ray emissions. Barite is used to make high-density concrete to block x-ray emissions in hospitals, power plants, and laboratories.
Barite encourages the mind-body connection. It restores, heals, & re-establishes the mind-body connection. This stone promotes awareness of feelings & circumstances preventing forward movement. It heightens the urge for honest self-evaluation and dispels delusions.
