Asteroid Jasper Cabochon
Asteroid Jasper Cabochon
Asteroid Jasper is a rare form of Jasper found exclusively on the shorelines of Madagascar, which is collected during low tide. Despite its name, it does not come from space, rather the name is due to the appearance.
Resembling Poppy Jasper but featuring more brownish tones, Asteroid Jasper displays super orbicular formations that result in phenomenal patterns.
Though it resembles Ocean Jasper, it has not been completely silicified, & instead displays the spherulites in shades of browns & umber tones. This material began as volcanic ash spewed from the mouth of a volcano millions of years ago. This ash was exposed to heat & pressure that resulted in turning it to stone.
Jasper is a variety of quartz that may contain up to 20 percent foreign materials or inclusions, including organic material & mineral oxides, which determine the color, pattern & appearance of the stone. Uniformly colored Jasper is uncommon but not unheard of; usually Jasper is multicolored, spotted or banded. This stone is opaque, even in thin slices, & takes a high polish. Different types of jasper display different lusters.
