Amazonite Slab
Amazonite Slab
Amazonite, also known as "Amazon stone," is a semi-opaque blue-green variety of microcline feldspar. Its name is an homage to the Amazon River, from which green stones were once obtained, though it is unknown whether those stones were Amazonite or not.
Although it has been used for over two thousand years, as verified by archaeological expeditions in Egypt and Mesopotamia, no ancient or medieval authority mentions it by name, as it wasn't until the 18th century that it was first described as a distinct mineral.
Amazonite is mostly opaque textured with pale milky-white cloudiness or streaking ranging from light green to greenish blue to deep green/blue. The attractive color closely resembles nephrite & jadeite. Amazonite gets its distinctive coloring from the presence of lead & water within the feldspar, not copper.
Amazonite is a stone of peace, truth, harmony, and communication. It gently soothes the nerves and calms the heart. It also promotes calming of the surrounding environment to dispel negative energies.
